We lose again! USL or MLS? Ultras are part of Sam's Army!

It's getting old folks, the losing is getting old. First the Portland game on Saturday where the Blues lost 3-1 and then it seemed we would bring back a point from Vancouver but with only 10 minutes left Miami conceded a goal followed by another a few minutes later that sealed our fate and might keep us away from the playoffs for yet another season. Sure, playing back to back games didn't help. But now the loss versus the Thunder last week at Lockhart really hurts. The Playoffs look unreachable at this stage unless we pull off a miracle streak. If you want to read a little more about the games check out Total Futbol and the Kartik Report.

The question many people have on many soccer discussion boards and blogs is whether Miami really wants a soccer team in MLS. Support for USL side Miami FC has been dismal at both Lockhart and FIU stadiums. I often wonder how it would be if we still had an MLS team. The Miami Fusion averaged over 11,000 their last year in 2001, this compared to the barely 1,000 we get to see the Blues today.

Miami FC's front office was criticized by fans in the beginning of the season for not showing an interest to advertise or market their product. Sure, we know they almost folded, yet still no real effort was made to get the word out. It seemed the head honchos thought that word of mouth would be enough to get people in the Stadium. Cries from fans for billboards or any sign in front of the Stadiums never materialized, the fact is most people in South Florida had no idea there were games taking place and still many people have no idea there is a professional soccer team in South Florida. Only recently as the season is ending have we seen an actual effort with a billboard going up and the new Miami FC Challenge viral campaign. Good stuff guys but very late.

If we go by what we read on the Internet Miami fans want MLS. This town is full of soccer snobs not willing to support a lower league. The fans demand top quality Soccer but while we read their demands I can only wonder if people will actually come out like they did in Seattle and how they are doing in Portland now. Many might argue that when the Barcelona Miami bid was developing that Miami did not rally to support this effort. Yet Claure and Barcelona did not advertise and did not try to get the word out on their own. These potential investors were relying on word of mouth to get the news out. So my question is why does Miami always get these stingy owners who are not willing to commit to this town? Why do they all do a half ass job? I mean if they actually advertise and still they fail then they are justified to close the doors and pack up.

Many Miami haters think the Miami Fusion was a failure. I don't see the Fusion as a failure, it was an owner not willing to commit and a league that was short sighted and who now regrets closing the doors to such a great market. Today, I find it funny that San Jose lost their team only to get it back and possibly lose it again. Move San Jose to Miami! I will further discuss MLS to Miami in future blog posts. Miami FC beats the Vancouver Whitecaps will now face the Portland Timbers

"With key players such as Diego Serna out, Miami FC continued its recent strong play and defeated Vancouver 2-1 at FIU Stadium." Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald

Things are looking good for the Blues on the field as they remain unbeaten at FIU Stadium. Miami looked strong in the first half and could have increased the score if their players had better aim. Numerous opportunities were wasted. Miami took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute on a goal by Alan Marcina. Leo Inacio made it 2-0 on a penalty kick awarded after defender Jeff Parke grabbed the ball in the area with his hands.

The Second half saw the Whitecaps come on strong in search of some goals but it wasn't until a red card given to Alen Marcina towards the end of the match that the Whitecaps were able to score with only two minutes left in the game. Dever Orgill gave Vancouver some hope but the game was sealed, final 2-1 for the Blues.

With the win, Miami FC is in sixth place and is only four points behind the Rochester Rhinos. The Blues will now play two consecutive games against the second place Timbers on Friday 8PM and Sunday 6PM at FIU Stadium. For more information visit www.miamifc.com

New Miami FC Jersey, History of South Florida Soccer and more

This Season it seems everything that has to do with Miami FC is late. The team almost folded due to MLS and we didn't know until the last minute it would survive. Therefore the team was organized at the last minute and so to continue with that trend this season the new Miami FC jersey finally came out in time for the July 4th game against the Puerto Rico Islanders.
To get a better view click on the picture to the right. What do you think? You can get the new jersey at Miami FC games or at Soccer Locker for a mere $40.00. Get your jersey and support our professional team.

It seems Miami FC will lose Facundo Erpen and Richard Perdomo. This according to the Miami Herald. Both seem to be ready to make moves Perdomo to Platense of Honduras and Erpen to a yet unknown team. Perdomo was recently on Republica Deportiva where incidentally the Miami Ultras also appeared (You can see the video in a post below). For more thoughts and the direction this is taking the team read this Miami Ultra piece called "Traffic Sports 2 Miami FC 0"

Also on the Ultras site you can check out more History of Pro Soccer in South Florida as Robert Scorca takes us back to the Miami Gatos days. Click here

Folks lets get out there this Sunday July 12th as the Blues will take on the MLS bound Vancouver Whitecaps at FIU Stadium. The game is set to start at 6 pm with an Ultras tailgate starting at 4 pm. The Beer is FREE! So get out there and support Soccer in South Florida!

Miami FC survive scare to win 2-1 over Lynch's FC and advance in the U.S. Open Cup.

Miami FC was able to overcome a 1-0 deficit at half time and defeated Lynch's FC by scoring 2 goals in 1 minute.

Lynch's drew first blood at the 35th minute off of a penalty that left the crowd gathered at Tropical Park silent. As half time came and went things looked bleak for the Blues until a confusing play that looked like a penalty in favor of Miami FC led to the first goal by Paulo Araujo at the 64th minute.
As soon as the game restarted Miami FC went for the kill and not even a minute later Striker Diego Serna escaped his markers and made it 2-1, which proved to be the final score that takes the Blue's to the next stage of the U.S. Open Cup.
Now Miami FC will play against the Charleston Battery who defeated Atlanta FC by 2-0 in a game which saw Atlanta lose 3 players to red cards. More here
According to the U.S. Open Schedule Miami FC would play The Battery on Tuesday June 16 at 8 pm at Tropical Park which would be crazy, considering the Blue's will play at Vancouver this Friday June 12 and then play this Sunday June 14 against Austin here at Lockhart Stadium! To make things worse after their U.S. Open Cup game Miami FC plays June 18, 20 and 23rd! For more on the crazy nightmare schedule the Blue's will go on check out the Miami Ultras site.
In other Miami FC news Honduran national team and one time Miami Fusion player Saul Martinez was seen practicing with the Blues prior to the Lynch's FC game. Could this be another signing or is he just training with the team? Saul was last seen playing for Club Deportivo Marathon of Honduras.

It's time to bleed Blue South Florida fans and support Miami FC as they play against the Austin Aztex this Sunday June 14 at 6pm. Tailgate begins at 4pm.
Let's go Blues! Vamos Miami !

MLS is Evil! A conspiracy against Miami by Burrito, with Video

MLS is ready to start its new season and will soon announce the name of the 2 new teams that will play in the league in 2011 (Probably Portland and Vancouver, whoopee for those putos!).
Burrito can't be happy for them, Burrito is mad! It should have been Miami, pero nos chingaron 'estilo perrito' once again!
Burrito hate MLS! Burrito yells it to the 4 winds!
Why? Here is why... click over highlighted thingies if you no understand Spanglish:

Uno - In 1998, Burrito, (who at time lived in Homestead, Florida) was happy to hear MLS was coming to South Florida. But Burrito think team was going to be in Orange Bowl. Pero they instead put team up in Broward! 50 miles from where Burrito live! Ay Chihuahua! At least we have a team!

Dos - (that mean numbers 2 for you no Espanish espeakers) Burrito take bus and train up to Lockhart Stadium! It take sometimes 2 hours cause Burrito no have moneys to buy car. Burrito used to sneak in to stadium, where a quesadilla with extra queso for the security man was good enough for admission, no problema!

Tree - Burrito do everything for Fusion, like yelling and fighting with opposing fans over which hair products Valderrama used to use and singing with Afusionados until Burrito lose voice but one day Ray Hudson even get mad at Burrito for yelling at player who make wrong pass, Burrito think Ray was going to come up to stand and fight him! ( Pero, Burrito think he can take Ray, mano a mano!)

Cat - (that how you say 4 in French! Meow!)

Sorry, Burrito take break to go eat Taco de ojo! Si, Taco of eye! Okay, where was Burrito? Oh yeah!

V - In 2001 after Miami have best season ever, winning Supporters Shield for best record in MLS, MVP in Alex Pineda Chacon and having attendance go up 50%... MLS decide to close team because stupid owner no have enough money!

That day was the worst feeling in Burrito's history! Los Pinches Putos nos chingaron! All Burrito have was the Miami Fusion! If it wasn't for the Mexican League and mami back in Toluca, Mexico Burrito would have died carnales!

Then 2009 came, almost 8 years later, an eternity for a futbol fan, MLS with Barcelona 'make up this story' they wanted MLS team in Miami. This was only conspiracy by MLS to hurt Miami fans feelings, almost like going to Taco Bell and some puto tell you "is on me ese, no worries, order what you want" and then you say que rico! Gimme #4 (the pinche Stuffed Grilled Burrito con steak!) and then when it's time to get it the homeboy (MLS) say "Sorry you no gonna get it!". What the F@c% MLS!

Will Miami ever have an MLS team? Burrito don't know. But if one day Burrito win Lottery Burrito use all money for team!

So it's like Burritos Mami say: "Orale Burrito, en estos dias dificiles de crisis economica tienes que pensar que todo va a estar bien, aver, come mijito, come tu taquito con carnitas y no te olvides de ponerle chile!" Translation: "Everything gonna be alright"

Now Burrito leave you with video that make him feel better, you watch or Burrito hit you on head with quesadilla!

MLS confirms Barcelona Miami would start playing in 2010

MLS Commissioner Don Garber confirmed that Miami will begin playing in 2010 according to Greg Lalas of Goal.com.

Garber states: "Barcelona and Miami, in partnership with Marcelo Claure, are focused on 2010," he said Wednesday at a press event in Columbus, Ohio. "If Miami gets a franchise, they’ll be starting in the 2010 season."

Now MLS claims they will make an announcement on the two winning bids next month, around the time the 2009 MLS season kicks off on March 19.

The favorite is clearly Miami with Vancouver and Portland fighting over the remaining slot. St Louis and Ottawa have an outside chance as Garber continued with the following:

"St. Louis is making good progress," he said. "I have some meetings with their ownership group later today and a potential partner they’ve brought in on the corporate side. They continue to be very active, and as I’ve said before, we’d love to have a team in St. Louis."

"We can’t go to Ottawa or any other city unless we have the appropriate venue," Garber said. "The venue Eugene Melnyk is proposing, they’ve got a really good shot for a team. But without a stadium, they’d never have a shot at all.

I don't know about the rest of you Miami fans but I'm getting ready to break my piggy bank for my season tickets! All Miami fans should go to the Miami FCB site and reserve your season tickets!

Make up your mind MLS! Vancouver, Miami, Ottawa, Portland and St. Louis wait for your answer...

I think I speak for all Soccer fans in MLS expansion cities when I express my anger concerning Major League Soccer's continued delays to finally give us the names of the final 2 cities that will enter the league in 2011.
According to The Weekly Sport League and Franchise Report: 'The announcement for the next two MLS expansion teams might not be made until late March or April!' What are they waiting for...? April Fools day? The report goes on to say that 'Vancouver and Miami appear to be the frontrunner's with Ottawa, Portland and St. Louis having issues with financing or stadium deals.' I wonder where they get their info from?
I'm sure the bigwigs of MLS have already made their decision, they just want the rest of us to suffer and keep reading the Beckham drama, because if you really think about it, even though Beckham is dissing MLS and the Galaxy for A.C.Milan, it still gets them in the news. It's all over, even CNN is reporting it folks!
If you think about it;MLS is strong with or without Beckham, having secured another 3 year deal with Panasonic and having what was once 7 cities fight over 2 expansion slots. It says something when investment groups are willing to pay $40M to get into a League many foreigners call second rate. Yeah, MLS is strong and here to stay!
I say we all write to Commissioner Garber at don.garber@mlsnet.com and ask him to stop all the shenanigans and give us an answer! Who will the teams be? Don't make us wait until April!
Miami Fans: don't forget to join and meet the Miami Ultras on Wednesday Feb 11 at Moriano Restaurant and watch the USA vs. Mexico match! Moriano is located just north of downtown Miami at 3221 NE 2nd Avenue.
Go USA! Go Barcelona Miami!

Atlanta Out! St Louis weak? Philly behind schedule = Barcelona Miami 2010

The list of potential MLS teams has been reduced today. Atlanta's bid according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was withdrawn by Arthur Blank Atlanta Falcons owner and the lead investor who pulled out of the running for an MLS team in 2011 due to the harsh economic times. Blank however, has not ruled out the possibility of biding for a space for 2013.

This withdrawl is the second after Montreal pulled out recently. Montreal was widely considered one of the favorites.
If we add the recent reports of St Louis falling short of expectations, then thing would get interesting. But, if having the Draft in St Louis is any indication then we can't really count them out just yet as reported on the St Louis Dispatch.

Unfortunetly for Florida the recent news of an Orlando MLS team this week turned out to be a bust. Orlando will have a team, but in the USL (U.S. 2nd Division).

So whats the picture now? 5 teams remain St Louis, Miami, Portland, Ottawa and Vancouver.

It's difficult to predict which teams will finally be picked. If we go by which cities deserve to be in I'd say St Louis and Portland. But if we look at the best investors It would be Vancouver and Miami. I think Ottawa has future potential and their bid was thought to have been the best presentation by MLS officials. But, in the big picture they have a remote chance of making it.

My heart is with Miami, as a disgruntled Miami Fusion fan who saw MLS give up on us due to a weak investor. But aside from my being biased, I think Miami is in because they have the most to give then all the other candidates and because they are ready to start in 2010. With the possibility of Philadelphia not being ready on time, this is another plus for Miami. Philly could wait another year and the problem is solved.

Who else would go? Portland and St Louis need the stadium if not they would be in and though Vancouver is in the same situation they have the money and a potential cross border rivalry with Seattle that would make this move work.

MLS in my opinion should announce Miami and Vancouver as 2011 candidates and St Louis and Portland for 2013.
