The Strikers Official Name Announcement this Thursday 2/17/11

Today is a big day for NASL as they are poised to receive or get denied the approval of the Division 2 status they seek.

The NASL is confident they have met the standards imposed by the USSF, so much so that member teams continue to move forward signing players and making announcements. That being said the Strikers have organized an event.

The Strikers Name Announcement event is coming this Thursday, February 17th at 5:00 PM. It's going to be held at Fort Lauderdale Beach at Las Olas and A1A.
See the attached flyer for more info: We urge soccer fans to attend this event and show their support for local soccer.
Let's go Strikers!

Exciting stuff!! Can't wait!

And if the people that hate Traffic don't want to show up and support local soccer then screw 'em.

Ft. Lauderdale is the obvious name, sucks Miami FC is gone.... All I can hope for is A MIAMI MLS BASED TEAM!!!! Strikers can stay in Second Division!! To the guy above me... Screw you... Miami to MLS or bust!!

To the guy above me, it does not have to be "MLS or bust". Look at Portland, Vancouver, Montréal and Puerto Rico. You don't need MLS to have great fan support and a great local soccer culture. The Timbers, Whitecaps and Impact have used that great fan support to basically force a move into MLS, but frankly they did not need MLS, MLS needed them. The 10,000 fans per game in Portland and the 12,000 per game in Montréal did not need MLS to justify showing up and supporting their local teams.

South Florida Strikers is the best name for the team to be in market

Stop that ft. lauderdale strikers was succesful back in the day and if they bring them back it would be the same crapt...

Give me a break, the old strikers are wanted because some people want to feel the nostalgia that comes with it, but not everybody shares the same feelings duude.... Most people that are interested in a team now are young and know nothing of the old strikers!!

Enjoy your strikers but yall forget that traffic is running the show, they are going to be the same as always, a stupid name is not going to bring success and fans... Stop that fantasy...

Wake up, Miami is the key, MLS was a joke back then, never brought fans. MLS is now renewed, with real teams, tv deals, way better players..

Look at the heat and what they did with the big three, BRING A TEAM TO MIAMI, AND IT WILL HAPPEN!!! SOld Out MLS Soccer, specially the friendlies in the summer, against international clubs, sold out for sure...

WHY MUST YOU OLDIES WANT TO RESOLVE EVERYTHING WITH A SO CALLED QUICK FIX FROM THE PAST, AND BRING AN OLD FART NAME AND TEAM LIKE THE STRIKERS...

YALL KILLED IT FOR ME, MIAMI FC WAS NEVER MIAMI FAULT GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEADS, IT WAS ALL TRAFFIC, AND TRAFFIC WILL DO THE SAME WIHT THE STRIKERS, THE ONLY WAY THIS THING WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IS THROUGH AN INVESTOR WILLING PUT TIME AND EFFORT INTO A MIAMI BASED TEAM, AND FANS, UNLIKE TRAFFIC WHO ONLY CARES ABOUT TRANSFERING PLAYERS TO BIG TIME CLUBS AND GETTING MONEY FOR THEMSELVES NOT EVEN FOR THE TEAM OR ADVERTISING THE TEAM...

The population in Broward county(were ft. Lauderdale is located) is 1,766,476 in which 24% are Hispanic and the population estimate as of 2009 in Miami Dade county is 2,500,625 in which 60% are Hispanic. All this is from the U.S Census Bureau, and I have noticed the majority of football (soccer) fans in Miami are Hispanic, not to say there arent other races that are as willing to participate or arent as fanatical. I think this is a major factor in the success of a football club in south florida

The anonymous one that spells "crapt" & howls, whines, babbles & screams for "Miami, Miami, Miami or nothing" tells me who you dimbulb rascals are. The AWOL Southern Legion! I shoulda known it. LOL

BTW, to the individual that babbles about population, please keep in mind that the populations of Palm Beach County and Broward outnumber the population of Miami-Dade. And also please remember that Garber did not talk about Miami, he talked about the South Florida market. The one that is the largest in Florida, the largest in the Southeastern US and the 7th largest in The US. Miami is just a part of it. A major part, to be sure, but only one of at at 3 major parts.

Further, Miami, by itself, has never, ever supported anything. Miami, along with the rest of South Florida can support all of out sports franchises in all the major sports (as long as they win). Instead of fighting it, join up and support the real effort to get MLS to South Florida - through the Strikers and NASL. You offer nothing but angry tirades - all in caps, too...LOL - with no clue as to how to get MLS here.

Keep up the stupidity, children. In time, I'm certain that the Strikers, Div 2, NASL, then MLS will succeed down here. And, they'll do it without you. You do get my message don't you? Keep screaming and whining as you become the superfluous element in South Florida sports.

Adios, losers.

Palm Beach County has more organized youth clubs and arguably more fans of the American and European game than Dade or Broward. So moving the team north actually increases the fan base. That is a reality. Miami has never supported American soccer. The Gatos, Toros, Freedom, Sharks and now Miami FC have all moved north eventually. Detect a pattern? I do!

Fort Lauderdale is the city with the major airport and big hotels so it makes sense to have a team there for marketing purposes even though most fans will come from Palm Beach. But we don't have the big hotels or the busy airport (Palm Beach Int'l is small and most people are forced to fly in and out of Fort Lauderdale when they travel)to attract a professional team. Maybe eventually we will have a team in Boca or Delray, but for now I am happy with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

By the way according to the census bureau, Broward and Palm Beach together is substantially more populated than Miami-Dade.

I'm a season ticket holder and I can't wait for all the big events planned for this season. As for the name helping to get fans in the stands... oh yeah it works. I introduced a friend of mine to Miami FC last year and he enjoyed himself. He was an original Strikers fan and he's so onboard now that he has signed up over 21 friends that are coaches in the local youth leagues for season tickets. Yeah it won't be like Green Bay where tickets are passed along only after death but I'll tell you that I'll be in section 120 row 1 seat 2 as long as there's a soccer ball moving around on that field. Go STRIKERS!! South Florida United FOREVER!!

Thank you, Justin, and the anonymous poster before you that added a positive vibe to this thread. It has been noted that the populations ofPalm Beach County and Broward Counties outnumber Miami-Dade's. Interesting that youth soccer is so prominent there. It's been awhile since I've been involved in it and the focus may have moved further north out of Broward. I still think it is huge in Broward, too.

The thought of the Strikers playing in front of larger crowds makes me happy. I wonder how many we can get consistently this year? Hopefully, Traffic wil finally give us a team worth watching.

It is stuff like that that will be the seed that grows into MLS's eventual return. There is nothing inevitable about it unless we show MLS that we will support a team. I'm pleased that there are people out there that understand that and want to make it happen instead of fighting the truth so that their wishful thinking will make an MLS team appear by some miracle.

Really exciting? Traffic sports, Aaron, and company are nothing good for South Florida. We will not stop until traffic is out of south Florida.

Broward fans never support soccer in Miami-Dade.

The last post pretty much sums up the actual problem that the Southern Squad has with the Stiker; in their view it's a Broward thing and not a Miami-Dade thing. They can't get a grip on the reality that anything in the tri-county area can be a Miami thing. Traffic, the Strikers & Aaron Davidson have committed the cardinal sin of stepping all over the Southern Squad's prejudices. Tsk, tsk.
