Blues win in Ft Myers, Season ticket ideas and Miami MLS hopes not dead?

Miami FC continues their pre-season; this time they beat Florida Gulf Coast University 1-0 in Fort Myers on Sunday. The goal came from Guatemalan Forward Edward Santeliz who flicked the ball in after Sean Cameron got a head on the ball which hit the post from a Bryan Perez corner-kick. This gives the Blues a 4-1 pre-season record so far with their only loss coming against the New York Red Bulls of the MLS. The Blues will play their last preseason game this Friday, April 2 at the Holiday Inn Soccer Complex in Sunrise at 5:00 p.m. For more information visit www.miamifc.com
Season Tickets
As some of you may know Miami FC has so far armed themselves with some strong talent for this coming 2010 season. The Blues will have players such as Christian Gómez, Lance Parker, Abe Thompson, Mike Randolph, Chris Gbandi, just to name a few that have Major League Soccer experience. We have a team that at least on paper looks pretty impressive. So on that note we ask people to get the word out and support South Florida's only professional soccer team by buying 2010 season tickets calling 305-728-2606!
Miami FC starts its season on Saturday, April 10 when they play against the Rochester Rhinos at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale at 7:30 p.m.
Talk about Season Tickets, check out this real cool video of Jonathan Bornstein of MLS's Chivas USA showing up to their season ticket holders homes to deliver the tickets! Imagine having Christian Gómez deliver your season tickets to your house?
Miami MLS hopes not dead?
One of our own Miami Ultras recently sent a letter to MLS commissioner Don Garber asking him to not forget South Florida in their expansion. The Don himself responded saying they are working to get that done!
As most South Florida Soccer fans know; we twice got our hearts broken by MLS. The first when they pulled the plug on the Miami Fusion right when the attendance was increasing and after we had won the supporters shield for having the best record in the league in 2001. Then, just last year we saw another disappointment as a "shew in" bid by Marcelo Claure and Barcelona of Spain mysteriously fell apart. Many Soccer fans have placed comments all over this blog and that of fellow Miami bloggers voicing their opinions on how they will only support Soccer in this town if its MLS. If you want to be heard do as our Miami Ultras comrade did and write to Don Garber at DGarber@mlsnet.com and voice your opinions!
While we at FMB (Football in Miami and Beyond) would love to see MLS come back to South Florida we believe the only way that will ever happen is if you show up to Miami FC games. Why? Because then we can prove to MLS and the world that 1st Division soccer needs to come back to this part of the country. Where are those 11,000 fans that used to show up to Fusion games? I think we only need half of that to show up to Miami FC games to make Traffic think that this market could make the jump up to MLS.
On that note check out this video of the Sons of Ben on their trip to Seattle to support the Philadelphia Union (who incidentally lost to the Sounders 2-0). Watching this video makes me think of how it should have been the Miami Ultras filming this video and making the road trip. We have a long road ahead but we can start by organizing a road trip for the July 4th game versus the Tampa Bay Rowdies! Vamos Miami!

I'll believe MLS here when I see MLS here, not before. Still, my compliments to the Ultra that contacted Garber. Undoubtedly attendance at Blues games at Lockhart will affect our ever getting an MLS franchise. I hope the folks in Miami that are really anxious for MLS's return but won't support MFC understand this & support The Blues, or whatever they morph into. That attendance may be the ONLY way we'll ever get MLS here.

MLS will return and the attendace at Miami FC will not make a difference. Miami FC should get more fans only because they now got better playes and not because they will play at Lockhart. I do hope you guys get MLS.

Yes move Dallas and the stadium to Miami.

TV ratings in English were higher in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market than any other in the country. The area is the largest metropolitan area in the country without an MLS team.

I believe there will be Great news for Miami during or after the Miami FC season... They can't ignore the potential Miami has and will bring MLS soon with or without Miami FC's attendance. They are running out of pro-soccer cities in the USA, and even a few of the existing MLS teams are falling to the bottom (Dallas, Kansas City, and San Jose)... They will pull the plug on one if not all of those teams if they don't get their act together. They might move one of them to Miami, but as for "moving the stadium to Miami", how is that even possible? lol.. Anyways keep pushing for MLS and support the Miami FC till then to put the icing on the cake for Garber...

I like the comment about moving Pizza Hut Park Stadium to Miami. We need a stadium like that in South Florida I am for moving FC Dallas to Miami. Someone should send a e mail to Garber.

Imagine having Christian Gómez deliver your season tickets to your house? Miami FC does not have that kind of imagination.

By Uncle Ed what happend to Marcelo Claure? Will he try again and bring MLS to Miami?

Email Garber at DGarber@mlsnet.com
But for now support Miami FC!

There are many reasons why MLS is not attractive to an investor like Claure.
MLS owns the rights to every player, they share profits equally among all teams, $40 million to join the club among other factors, sounds a little like communism to me... But this system has helped maintain MLS afloat for 15 years.
Claure wanted to be in-charge of his own destiny. I think that is why they backed-out.

Well If Claure don't want invest in MLS I am sure other investors will jump in. Miami is an attractive city that MLS will not leave out.

ohhh brother first start getting more than 380 people to a game and then we can talk MLS.

Miami FC only get that many fans because thats how many people know about Miami FC. If they did a better job letting fans know i am sure they would have more fans.

I tend to think that Miami/South Florida is too attractive a market for MLS to pass up forever, one way or another MLS will come back. That being said the only true way to guarantee we do get another team is to support Miami FC. Good attendance for MFC matches certinaly wont hurt our quest for MLS.

If Claure doesn't want to support soccer in South Florida than screw him. Like it or not MLS is the top tier here, it's system has sustained the league and it's the best league the US has ever seen. Come on down Mr. Beckham!

As for MLS attendance numbers elsewhere, I'll let KC and San Jose slide because the capacity for their stadiums is just over 10K, but c'mon Dallas and Columbus gimme a break. Thanks Hunt family. Way to hitch your wagon to those cities... The Fusion would be entering their 13th season if they were lucky enough to be salvaged like some other teams were. You can bet South Florida would be getting more than 8,000 people for top tier pro soccer.

Beckham like Miami.

MLS will never work in south Florida. Why don't people stop whining and support soccer at all levels, NASL, PDL, Youth Soccer before being so elitist. MLS structure has sustained the league but the quality of play has not improved and the fans of real soccer markets like Boston and Dallas are staying away. That should tell you something.

The second stadium is labeled soccer/multi-event and would have 45,000 seats. It would hold either a Major League Soccer franchise or international soccer games, as well as other events.
